Know when to replace vape products | Pharmacy World Australia | Blog

It's important to know that all vaping devices and their accessories will need replacing eventually... Some components sooner than others. Replacing vaping goods when they've reached the end of their life is important for safety, longevity of your vaping device and cleanliness of your vapour.

When to replace a disposable pod or coil

When you are no longer getting the same quality of vapour and flavour from your vaping, it may be time to replace the disposable pod (with built-in coil) or replaceable coil. The table below indicates other signs that your built-in or replaceable coil has reached the end of its life include.

  • Burned taste in vapour.
  • Coil centre (cotton wick) is dark colour.
  • E-liquid sucked through mouthpiece.
  • Excessive leaking.
  • Little to no vapour production.
  • Lots of gurgling as you draw.

When to replace a reusable tank

The benefit of reusable pods and tanks that use replaceable coils is that you can keep them for much, much longer than disposable ones. They save you money and the environment from excessive rubbish. However, they don't last forever.

Firstly, most reuseable vaping tanks can be pulled apart and washed... In fact, you should do this about once a month to maintain clean vapour and optimal vapourisation.

Cleaning

  1. Carefully dismantle the tank. Each brand's tanks have different ways of doing this so check their YouTube account for instructions.
  2. Fill a small bowl with 50% hot water and 50% white vinegar.
  3. Put all stainless steel, drip tip and glass components only in the bowl for about 15 minutes. DO NOT put plastic o-rings in the bowl, just wipe any residue off them.
  4. Dry all components and reassemble.

Replacing

If you have cleaned the tank, replaced any questionable o-rings (usually spares come with the pack), replaced the glass and you still find coils are burning faster, connection to device is not solid or it continues to leak, it's time for a brand-new tank.

When to replace a reusable pod

Unlike tanks that can be washed, reusable pods can't be dismantled for cleaning but you can do some maintenance to keep them longer. It's a good rule of thumb however, to replace them every one to two months.

Cleaning

Use a tissue or thin cotton bud to clean out mouthpiece bore (slot that you vape from) periodically and always wipe any excess e-liquid from around the base of the pod before installing.

Replacing

When your coils are burning fast without explanation (and it's not the mod or battery's fault), connection to device is no longer solid or it continues to leak, the mouthpiece is broken or there's a crack in the pod body, it's time for a brand-new pod.

Any physical damage to batteries (whether built-in or replaceable) require immediate replacement for safety. Connection with any other metal object may cause battery to explode.

When to replace built-in battery device

Vaping devices with integrated batteries (or built-in) are rechargeable and can last anywhere from six months up to two years. Here are some signs that your device needs replacing.

  • E-liquid leaking down from old pod.
  • Not charging.
  • Overheating (hot to touch after charging/using).
  • Performance issues (not as much vapour/flavour not caused by pod/coil).
  • Reduced battery life (depletes faster).
  • Rattling.
  • Significant damage (dents) to body (battery inside could be damaged which is dangerous).

Please check with your local council for advice on built-in battery device disposal.

When to replace a mod

A mod usually has replaceable batteries which means it can last for many years. If you've replaced the interchangeable batteries and you still experience the following issues, it's time to replace the vaping mod.

  • Connectors to battery/ies inside appear damaged.
  • Display screen malfunctioning.
  • E-liquid leaking down from old pod.
  • Not charging.
  • No longer recognises an installed tank/atomiser.
  • Overheating (hot to touch after charging/using).
  • Performance issues (not as much vapour/flavour not caused by pod/tank).
  • Rattling.
  • Tank 510 connection is damaged (if applicable).

Devices can be disposed of in household waste without batteries. Check with your local council for advice on battery disposal.

When to replace batteries

These refer to replaceable batteries used in mods which can be replaced, charged using an external battery charger and used in multiple compatible mods.

It's important to note that these batteries are not designed for use with vaping goods so you are using them at your own risk and should do so with caution.

Here are some signs that your batteries need replacing or mending.

Mend

Fix nicks or tares on plastic wrap by replacing the battery wrap. You can purchase replacement battery wraps.

Replace

Replace the entire battery/ies when you notice any of the following.

  • Dents in body.
  • Not charging.
  • Overheating (hot to touch after charging/using).
  • Performance issues (not as much vapour/flavour not caused by device).
  • Reduced battery life (depletes faster).
  • Signs of rust.
  • Swelling.
  • Voltage depletion.
